BEHIND THE WHEEL, CLASSROOM, AND BOST TEST POLICY & CONTRACT INFORMATION
Welcome to Colorado Driving Institute and thank you for choosing us. We are one of Colorado's top rated driving schools, and we use AAA Text Books. CDI is state approved and BOST certified. Our course curriculum, training, and testing is "Approved and regulated by the Division of Motor Vehicles". This letter contains policy and contract information for our Behind The Wheel , classroom, and Basic Operators Skills Test. Please review all of the information, sign, and return it to CDI either by fax, E-mail, snail mail, or drop off at class on class day , or before the first scheduled BTW lesson.
Students: To optimize teen driving safety, we believe that co-coaching with parents is the most effective way to teach teens to drive. CDI does not guarantee nor imply that any student will acquire the necessary skills to obtain a Colorado State Drivers License. Results depend upon student effort and practice time with a license carrying Adult age 21 or older. A minimum of 4 hours of practice time is encouraged between each of the 2 hour drive lessons. CDI will not certify that the student meets our safety requirements when a student's Behind the Wheel skills are not equal to or superior to that of an average teenage driver; Instructors may request additional lessons for a CDI certificate.
Certificates of Completion: Certificate of completion is issued only after the student has successfully completed 30Hr of classes and/or all lesson requirements. Also, all fees must be paid in full; services are not transferable and expire one year after registration.
CLASSROOM: The 30-hours/4-hours of classroom consist of a core curriculum approved by the State of Colorado. To assure that each student gets the full benefit of the course content, we have outlined the following rules.
Please note, any student who chooses not to cooperate with the following rules may be dismissed:
1. Students should attend 30 hours or 4 hours of class time in order to receive their affidavit/certificate. Parents
should attend the first hour of Session #1 or last half hour after the 4-hour EDAP.
2. Classrooms & restrooms must be kept in neat and clean condition. No writing on chairs, tables, books, or
walls or students will be responsible for these damaged items.
3. Orderly and cooperative conduct is required of each student at all times.
4. CDI will not permit theft, drugs/alcohol, disruptive, or disrespectful behavior.
5. Use of electronic devices and cell phones is prohibited during classroom session.
Classroom Attendance: Classroom changes or absences are rescheduled at no fee but do require a reservation. There is
no charge for additional classroom time.
BEHIND THE WHEEL TRAINING: A valid license or permit is required before scheduling BTW training lessons or a driving test. Typically, lessons are available 2-6 weeks out. Our website provides current prices, and detailed maps to the driving lesson locations, as well as dates of upcoming monthly classes.

BTW On Time Policy: CDI has an on-time policy. If the student is more than 15 minutes late to their lesson, they will be cancelled and a $50 fee assessed. We recommend that students arrive 5-10 minutes before the scheduled lesson time. Sometimes, traffic can delay the start time.
BTW Cancellation Policy: Rescheduling or canceling a BTW lesson is free if it is done with more than 24 hours notice; otherwise the $50
cancellation fee will apply. Please note e-mailed schedule changes will not be accepted and all fees must be paid before scheduling another lesson.
Also, future lessons may be cancelled by CDI until fees are paid.
BTW cancellation /no-show fees are as follows:
A $50 fee for a cancellation with 24 hours or less notice will apply for:
Not showing up for the lesson
Attending the lesson with a non-valid permit/license
Not having a permit/license (photocopies are not allowed) with you at the time of lesson /test
Driving Test (Basic Operating Skill Test - BOST) Cancellation Policy:
A $30 no-show/cancellation/rescheduling fee will be assessed for scheduled driving tests that are not attended by the customer, cancelling 24
hours or less notice, or doesn't present a valid permit to the driving instructor the day of the test.
To test for a driver's license, teens must have held their permit for 1 full year, be 16 years or older the day they are scheduled to take the test.
CDI is not responsible for parent/teen scheduling errors, and all fees will be assed accordingly. Reminder notice can be unsuccessful.
Refund Policy: No refunds will be granted 24 hours after any purchase has been made. If extenuating circumstances exist (i.e. military activation, death of immediate family member, or a serious medical condition) a student/parent may submit a Refund Request Form with supporting documentation to the Boulder Office. Submitting a refund request does not always result in an approval for a refund.
Bad Weather Policy: We drive and hold classes in bad weather and at night. However, extreme weather conditions may create high-risk situations. If an accident alert is in effect at training location, CDI or a parent may cancel the lesson. If CDI or a parent cancels a lesson due to accident alert, no cancellation fee will be applied. The student or legal parent/guardian will need to call the office to reschedule.
BTW Safety & Insurance Requirements: Safety--Driving is the most dangerous event anyone does on a regular basis. Although driver's education insurance rates are among the lowest, and accidents are far below average, CDI cannot guarantee anyone's safety while driving an automobile.
According to Colorado Primacy, non-owner operators must look to their own medical insurance, in the event of an accident. Now that no fault insurance is gone Colorado, be sure to check with your Auto Insurance Agent and with your Health Care Provider, about vehicle accident benefits.
You and your student may rest assured, that the training and information given in this course is updated, and among the best available anywhere. We trust your experience will be fun, interactive, and of great value.
